Norwich Testimonial

  • When I was looking for colleges, I was searching for an institution that would not only educate me with an academic degree but also for a school that would allow me to grow as an individual and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of leadership. Norwich did just that.
  • There is no doubt that Rookdom was tough but, looking back on my four years at Norwich in the Corps of Cadets, it certainly was the best experience of my life. Like many others, I challenged myself to take on leadership roles and, while I chose not to commission into the military, the lessons learned in the Corps of Cadets have helped me to become a better manager and leader in the civilian world.

Favorite Quote:
"I want to make it very clear that honor is the highest of all values. Your personal integrity should guide every other value that you have. Normally these values are never in conflict. Values such as temperance, wisdom, tolerance and loyalty are all wondeful but I did charge the Corps Honor Committee to work on an issue that is of considerable important to Norwich. That issue is the misguided understanding of some of our students that loyalty should be above all.

One of the most common ethical dilemmas that any citizen, cadet, midshipman or politician would face is when a friend asks them to lie to protect them from potential disciplinary issues. That should never happen. Asking another to commit an honor offense to protect you, in my book, is a cowardly act...Real friends do not put each other in those ethical dilemmas.

This issue has placed more professional people in trouble than anything. The present loss of respect and public confidence in leaders comes from precisely this issue...But life is not easy and this one issue separates true leadership from the facade of leadership."

Something about you that is surprising:
In high school, I weighed almost 300 pounds. I decided in January 2002 to lose the weight, and have been getting up at 0430 ever since to work-out and run.
