I fell in love with Norwich because it was everything I wanted in a university. It was a small private school and I loved the alumni “family” the university provided to me.

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.” ~Gilda Radner

Norwich was the only school I visited and the only one to which I applied. I wanted a school with a small-to-medium student body and a place where I could continue my athletic endeavors. Most importantly, however, was finding a school that was strong on enforcing moral values. I didn’t wish to pursue a military lifestyle in college, which is why coming to Norwich as a civilian student was the perfect fit for me.

I chose Norwich for the small size of the school because I never really liked being in a crowd. I ended up getting a great deal more from the school than I bargained for. The relationships Norwich fosters are amazing. Through the school I have met so many people that I consider as close to family as you can get, that I believe I have a certain bond with anyone associated with the school.

When I was looking for colleges, I was searching for an institution that would not only educate me with an academic degree but also for a school that would allow me to grow as an individual and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of leadership. Norwich did just that.

There is no doubt that Rookdom was tough but, looking back on my four years at Norwich in the Corps of Cadets, it certainly was the best experience of my life. Like many others, I challenged myself to take on leadership roles and, while I chose not to commission into the military, the lessons learned in the Corps of Cadets have helped me to become a better manager and leader in the civilian world.

“If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay,’ said Gatsby. ‘You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock.’

Daisy put her arm through his abruptly but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said. Possibly it occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had vanished forever. Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.”
