Affects Nursing and Athletic Training students
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requires verification of competency for all individuals who have direct contact with patients or employees; this includes students doing clinical rotations in a health-care facility. Competency extends beyond technical skills to an individual’s criminal history. In addition, some students may have clinical placements at local schools that require criminal background checks.
Therefore, per Norwich University policy, all Nursing and Athletic Training students are required to successfully complete a criminal background check prior to enrolling within these programs.
Incoming students need to complete the background check through PreCheck, Inc., a firm specializing in background checks for health-care workers. Your order must be placed and paid for online through StudentCheck using the instructions and links below.
Your background report will be provided to you and to the department chair for Nursing or Athletic Training. If there is an issue with your enrollment due to the background report, you will be notified by a University official immediately. Background checks will be honored for the duration of the student’s enrollment in the clinical program if the participating student has not had a break in the enrollment at the college/school. A break in enrollment is defined as nonattendance of one full semester or more.
