You’ve Made Your Choice – Now What?

By Matt Morissette

You’ve made a great choice, now stick with it! It’s only natural to get “cold feet” after making such a big decision, but fear not, that idea of attending Norwich University, the one you made long ago in your mind, may just be the best decision of your young life.

After sending out application after application, waiting those long weeks, maybe even months, to get the acceptance packet in the mail, visiting your top schools (maybe more than once), filing out endless mounds of paperwork for financial aide or ROTC scholarships has finally paid off. You have made the choice, and paid your deposit….now relax, and take a deep breath.

Now that you’ve reserved your place in the upcoming term, there isn’t too much left for you to do. At this point, you should be filling out forms from our New Student Information Packet (NSIP) that are on the Norwich webpage. They include such forms as: Housing, Medical, Bookstore and Meal Plan, Laundry Service and Student Affairs as well as sections on what to bring/ not bring, important phone numbers and dates, and for the Corps of Cadets, Uniform Measurements. It is essential that you read these forms carefully, fill them out in the timely manor and return them to the admissions office.

There is no need to worry about registering for classes either. You classes have been pre-selected for you by your academic advisor. After you arrive on campus, we will hold an “academic day.” This is when you will meet your academic advisor, breakdown your academic schedule for the semester, and make any necessary changes. This will be the time to change any classes and discuss what your objectives are for the first semester.

Finally, enjoy your summer! Your counselor will still be here for you if anything should come up, so hang out with friends, take a vacation, work to earn money, and spend time with family. The summer will fly by, and before you know it, you’ll be here for arrival day, ready to start this most exciting and enlightening adventure.
