International Students

Guidelines & Requirements

Norwich University is host to students from around the globe, currently housing applicants from over 20 international countries. International students add a great dimension to our campus and, in the coming years, we will seek to increase the diversity of our campus so that all students may benefit from each other's experience.

Application Process

To be considered for admission, all international students must submit the following items. Your application cannot be reviewed until all of these documents are received.

  1. Completed online application.
  2. $35 Application Fee.
  3. Official copy of secondary school transcript, translated into English. Transcripts should include subjects studied, grades earned, examinations passed, and the dates that diplomas, certificates, or degrees were earned. Please include a brief description of the subjects you studied and a brief description of your grading system.
  4. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum accepted scores are 500 on the paper test or 173 on the computer test. If you live in a country where the TOEFL is not offered, then the SAT or ACT replaces this requirement.
  5. Personal Essay: one to three pages on a subject of your choosing.
  6. Official college transcripts of coursework taken prior to applying to Norwich, translated into English.
  7. Completed Affidavit of Support.
  8. Completed International Student Financial Aid Application

Deadlines

It is vital that you adhere to these deadlines to give yourself adequate time to complete the Visa process.

  • Early Action: Applications must be completed by February 15. Students will receive a decision by March 1 and have a deposit deadline of April 1.
  • Regular Review: Applications must be completed by March 15. Students will receive a decision by April 1 and have a deposit deadline of May 1.

English Language Proficiency

Norwich University does not offer a comprehensive English as a Second Language program. As such, it is important that applicants demonstrate their proficiency in English. Students who reside in countries where English is not the native language are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum accepted scores are 500 on the paper test or 173 on the computer version. Student who were raised in the United States or another English-speaking country are required to submit the SAT I or ACT.

Financing Your Education

International students are eligible to receive university merit scholarships, but they are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid. As such, aid for international students is extremely limited.

As part of the application process, students are expected to complete an Affidavit of Support and an International Student Financial Aid Application, documenting the amount you have available to commit to financing your education. The Affidavit needs to be notarized and accompanied by a bank statement from the sponsor's bank supporting the funds available. Total estimated expenses are $34,000 for Cadets and $32,500 for Traditional Students.
