5 Year Architecture Program

The five-year Master's of Architecture program is a four-plus-one model. Students must first complete their bachelor's degree in architecture at Norwich before applying for admission to the one-year masters program. Students who received their undergraduate degree from another institution are not eligible to apply for admission to the master's program until they have first obtained their bachelor's degree in architecture through Norwich.

Students applying for the undergraduate Architecture program must complete the same admissions process as other new students to the university, with an additional creative component. Students may choose one of two ways of expressing their creative potential to the admissions committee.

Submission of Creative Works

Most students submit a portfolio exhibiting eight to ten pieces of creative work. Examples of submissions include artwork (drawings, paintings, sculpture), mechanical drawings, graphic designs, or written work.

Keep the following in mind when building your portfolio:

  1. If you plan to submit CAD drawings (computer-aided), we ask that you also supplement that with hand-drawn work.
  2. Please do not send the original artwork. Photocopies or blueprints are acceptable. Please also note a description of when the work was created.

Descriptive Essay

"To make space well, one must cultivate vision, the ability to foresee events in the three-dimensional world and to act on the prescience. Whereas poets are students of language, playwrights are students of drama and comedy, and opera singers are students of voice, architects are students of vision."

Your second option for expressing your creative potential is an essay. Consider the above quote. Think about a building or place that has a special meaning to you and share a description with us. Your answer may be graphic (sketch, drawing, etc.), written (one or two paragraphs), poetic, or a combination of these.
