For a minor in sociology, the student must complete 18 degree credits with a grade of “C” or better.

Required courses:

  • SO201: Introduction to Sociology
  • CJ/SO209: Methods of Social Science Research or one of the following social science methodology course: HI 109, PO 220, PY 313, or PY 314
  • SO202: Problems of Modern Society
  • SO212: Cultural Anthropology or SO214: Racial and Cultural Minorities

Elective courses:

Two elective courses (or 6 degree credits) from other offerings in sociology, including the Selected Topics course SO300 when offered and either the SO212 or SO214 course that is not selected as one of the required courses. Other than CJ/SO209, Sociology cross-listed courses must be taken under the SO number to apply to the minor. (Cross-listed SO/CJ course must be taken under the CJ number to be used by CJ majors for the CJ elective requirement. Thus, CJ majors pursuing a Sociology minor cannot count cross-listed courses other than CJ/SO209 for both major and minor.)
