AS101, AS102. The Foundations of the United States Air Force 1 Credit
This is a survey course designed to introduce students to the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. Featured topics include: mission and organization of the Air Force, officership and professionalism, military customs and courtesies, Air Force opportunities, group leadership problems, and an introduction to communication skills. A mandatory leadership laboratory complements this course by providing cadets with followership experiences.
AS201, AS202. The Evolution of USAF Air and Space Power 1 Credit
This course focuses on facilitating the transition from Air Force ROTC cadet to Air Force ROTC candidate. Featured topics include: Air Force heritage, Air Force leaders, general aspects of air and space power, introduction to ethics and values, group leadership problems, and continuing application of communication skills. A mandatory leadership laboratory complements this course by providing cadets with their first opportunity for applied leadership experiences.
AS311, AS312. Air Force Leadership Studies 3 Credits
A study of leadership and quality management fundamentals, professional knowledge, leadership ethics, and communicative skills required of an Air Force junior officer. Case studies are used to examine Air Force leadership and management situations as a means of demonstrating and exercising practical application of the concepts being studied. A mandatory leadership laboratory complements this course by providing advanced leadership experiences in officer-type activities, giving students the opportunity to apply the leadership and management principles discussed in class. Prerequisite of AS312: AS311 or permission of the Professor of Aerospace Studies.
AS411, AS412. National Security Affairs/Preparation for Active Duty 3 Credits
The course examines the national security process, regional studies, advanced leadership ethics, and Air Force doctrine. Special topics of interest include the military as a profession, officership, military justice, civilian control of the military, preparation for active duty, and current issues affecting military professionalism. Within this structure, continued emphasis is given to the refinement of communication skills. A mandatory leadership laboratory complements this course by providing advanced leadership experiences, giving students the opportunity to apply the leadership and management principles of the ROTC program. Enrollment restricted to students pursuing a commission.
