For anyone studying mathematics, the first steps are the lessons in using tools – the calculus sequence. Once mastery is achieved, students learn to apply these tools to a variety of fields in differential equations. The course of study then broadens to investigate the logical foundations of mathematics. Upon earning a bachelor’s degree, mathematics majors often pursue advanced study of a specialized area in graduate school.
The following is a typical curriculum our undergraduate mathematics majors follow. Notice the number of free electives offered in the junior and senior year – this allows our students to pursue any courses offered at Norwich to obtain a minor in another field of interest. Any questions may be directed to the Mathematics Department Chair, Professor Gerard LaVarnway, lavarnwa@norwich.edu.
