"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."
~ James Madison, 1822
Kreitzberg Library has been a selective U.S. Federal Depository Library since 1908. We have many federal government publications in many subjects. Kreitzberg Library also contains major Vermont state publications.
The library has government information in many formats: paper, electronic, microfiche, maps, and CD-ROMs, as well as USGS publications. Government publications may be searched in Voyager, the library's online public access catalog.
The hardcopy, or paper publication collection, is shelved in Dewey call number order on the Mezzanine level of the library. Some publications are shelved in the reference collection, on the first floor of the library.
The microfiche collection is arranged by the Superintendent of Documents classification number and is housed in maroon cabinets near the microfilm collection on the Mezzanine. Microfiche may also be checked out.
Government CD-ROMs are arranged by Dewey call number and housed in a beige metal cabinet in the east alcove of the reference area.
Maps are located in the southwest corner of the library.
The collection of USGS materials is housed in the Geology Library in the science building.
Finally, please take a look at the resource page of Government, Statistical, and Legal Internet Resources and 2008 Election Resources.
