Learning Support Services

The Learning Support Center, or LSC, offers the opportunity for individualized assistance with myriad aspects of academic life in a supportive atmosphere. Students voluntarily choose from a variety of services:

  • help with planning;
  • organizing and managing responsibilities;
  • assessing best ways of learning in different environments;
  • reading, writing, notetaking and exam-taking strategies;
  • tutorials and review sessions in selected course subject areas;
  • and, counseling and coaching for specific academic problems such as probationary status and learning disorders.

Services are provided by a professional staff of full and part-time learning specialists as well as peer tutors certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Hours and specific services

All of the services and programs offered by the LSC are included as part of your tuition costs. In order to take advantage of these services, you must make an appointment, either by calling 2130, or coming to the LSC offices on the fourth floor of the Kreitzberg Library.

Voluntary Services

General Academic Help, available if you are a student at Norwich University, is provided by Professional Senior Tutors and Peer Tutors:

  • Professional Senior Tutors:
    • help you learn better time-management, organization, and study skills.
    • help you in specific subject areas, like Math and English.
    • act as academic coaches to keep you on track.
    • meet with you on an as-needed or regular basis.
  • Peer Tutors:
    • help you succeed in specific subject areas, like Geology, Spanish, or Criminal Justice.
    • meet with you on a regular, weekly basis.

Services for Students with Disabilities, available if you have a documented physical, emotional, learning, or attentional disability, are provided by the Coordinator of Specialized Student Services:

  • Coordinator of Specialized Student Services:
    • works with LSC Director to help you with the process of properly documenting your disability;
    • orients you to your Educational Profile the LSC Director has created for you;
    • facilitates communication with faculty, staff, and family members, with your permission;
    • meets with you on an as-needed or regular basis.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Services, available if English is not your first language, are provided by the ESL Specialist:

  • ESL Specialist:
    • helps you become a more fluent reader, speaker, listener and writer in English;
    • meets with you on an as-needed or regular basis.

Mandatory Programs

The Probation Program, mandatory if your GPA is not in “good standing,” is administered by the Coordinator of Academic Enhancement:

  • Coordinator of Academic Enhancement::
    • monitors academic progress.
    • determines and suggests appropriate help for you.
    • meets with you on a regular basis.

Re-Admit Condition, mandatory if you have been separated and re-admitted to Norwich University, is administered by the Re-Admit Coordinator:
