Four English Faculty Awarded Summer Honors and Prizes

Helen Caudill, F. Brett Cox, Kathleen McDonald and Lea Williams have all been awarded faculty honors and prizes for the scholarship they will conduct over the summer.

Caudill and Williams both won grants from the prestigious “Bride Family Foundation” that is intended for faculty in the Humanities to undertake a project that is related to both their teaching and academic interests.

Caudill will travel to London in early August where she will attend the “British National Stage Combat Workshop” and receive advanced training in unarmed and armed stage combat.  She regularly teaches stage combat, herself, in Acting and Directing (EN241) and Introduction to Theatre (EN239).  Moreover, she often demonstrates stage combat in both Shakespeare classes (EN333 and EN334).  The “British National Stage Combat Workshop” emphasizes Shakespearian fighting styles.

Williams will use her Bride award to travel to Vietnam (see related story above) and begin planning the itinerary for students who will be enrolled in her course “Literature of the Vietnam War” which will be offered during the Spring 2008 semester.

Both F. Brett Cox and Kathleen McDonald won “Charles A. Dana” grants that were based on their superior scholarship, teaching ability, and university service.
