Members of the Portland [Maine] Stage Company select one play from each New England state as a winner of its annual competition among the region’s playwrights.

Jeanne Beckwith, a faculty member in the English department, was named the state winner from Vermont for her full-length play Companion.  On her website, Beckwith explains that the work is about, “strange happenings that occur on an isolated island.”

The goal of the Portland Stage Company awards, which are part of their “Clauder Competition,” is to provide “exposure, encouragement, and critical feedback to promising playwrights.”

Beckwith regularly assists with Pegasus Players productions and teaches some of the theatre sequence of courses, including “Technical Aspects in Theatre Design” (EN240) and “Acting and Directing” (EN241).
