VPAA biography

Bjong Wolf Yeigh, PhD was named Norwich University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty on July 1, 2006. He came to Norwich from Saint Louis University, where he was the engineering dean. At Norwich, Yeigh holds a tenured professorship in a joint appointment with the Mechanical Engineering Department at the David Crawford School of Engineering and in the School of Business and Management.

As the chief academic officer at Norwich, Yeigh is responsible for providing leadership to all academic and academic support programs. He brings a unique combination of interdisciplinary experience from engineering, public policy, management, and liberal arts.

Prior to leading the engineering and technology college at Saint Louis University, Yeigh held the post of assistant provost for science and technology at Yale University, where he managed and oversaw academic facilities, research, budget and faculty programs in the natural and social sciences.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Yeigh served as a tactical intelligence officer for Fighter Squadron Seventy-Four (VF-74) aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-60) in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While on active duty, Yeigh completed Strike Lead Attack Training Syllabus (SLATS), Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), Navy Electronic Officer Course, and Navy and Marine Corp Intelligence Training.

Yeigh earned his AB in engineering science from Dartmouth College in 1986, MS in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1987, graduate certificate in science and technology policy from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and MA and PhD in civil engineering and operations research from Princeton University in 1995. Yeigh’s expertise is in modeling and simulations research, and he teaches in engineering mechanics and in management. He was elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and serves on several national and state boards for engineering, economic development, public policy and education.
