make work lighter in Haiti © Feb. 21, 2014, Norwich University Office of Communications

The Caribbean country of Haiti is a world away from the winters of Northfield, Vt., home to Norwich University.

In addition to the tropical climate, students on a 2013/14 winter service-learning trip found themselves in one of the poorest countries in the world. They met people whose needs—clean drinking water, safe buildings and education—fell into categories we often take for granted.

Along with day-to-day challenges such as the language barrier and work in the hot climate, students found themselves pondering some powerful lessons about what is really important.

They also made lifelong connections with some wonderful people, and had a terrific adventure!
