More than 200 participants and 125 volunteers put their hearts into the Brian Bill Memorial Challenge at Norwich University on Feb. 17, 2013.
This obstacle course threaded several miles through and around Norwich’s Northfield, Vt., campus, including a lung-busting hike up Paine Mountain. In all, there were 28 obstacles. Added to the difficulty were icy paths and a fierce February wind.
Organized by the Navy ROTC staff on campus, the challenge raised money for a scholarship in the name of Brian Bill, a Class of 2001 Norwich graduate and Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan Aug. 6, 2011, when a Chinook helicopter was shot down. The event began with a short service, and several of Bill’s family members took part in the race.
The challenge is planned as an annual event.
