After more than a week absorbing the rules, traditions and challenges of their new life in the Norwich University Corps of Cadets, the new class of Rooks was ready to let off a little steam.

That is why new candidates for the Corps, where students lead a military lifestyle emphasizing leadership, hard work and personal integrity, are sent down the Dog River.

Students are led through calisthenics, the Worm Pits and down the river, roaring and shouting the whole way. On the following day, classes begin and the Rooks continue their journey to becoming recognized cadets.
