Sketching School is the chance for Norwich University students to practice the art of visual communication in an interesting place.

Previous trips have visited locations such as San Juan, Puerto Rico; Lunenberg, Nova Scotia; and beautiful spots in the U.S. In May 2012, organizers were able to take a group to Beijing, China, where they visited the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and many interesting spots within the massive city.

Students soaked in Chinese culture, met artists and interacted with the people they encountered. All the while they documented their observations and feelings in drawing notebooks. Norwich’s School of Architecture + Art has created the program to broaden student perspectives and develop their ability to sketch, which is an important and seldom-taught skill for architects.
