The third Monday in January, commemorating the birth of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., is marked in a variety of ways, often determined by state governance.

Norwich students have embraced the idea of a day for citizen action and volunteering, spreading out across Central Vermont to offer their skills and energy to anyone who needs it.

After breakfast, volunteers are divided into small crews and sent along to organizations such as food shelves, teen centers, nature education facilities and individual homes. The event was organized by Norwich’s Center for Civic Engagement.

This student-made video highlights their good work.
