On Saturday, April 1, Norwich University hosted its 4th Annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament for Special Olympics Vermont. Under the guidance of Prof. Geoff Davison and student Games Commissioner Jason Cariveau, the event was organized and run by Davison’s "Organization and Administration in Physical Education" class. This year’s tournament featured 140 Special Olympians on 15 teams, the largest turnout in the event's four-year history and double the enrollment of the inaugural event.

The morning began with an Opening Ceremony and March of Athletes to provide an authentic Olympic feel to the event. These formalities were followed by individual basketball skills competitions and five-on-five games. A break for lunch included a raffle of prizes donated by Norwich University varsity athletic programs and other sponsors. The afternoon consisted of more tournament games used to determine final placings for the event. Dozens of volunteers from the Norwich community dedicated their day to assisting the students on the Games Management Team to ensure that this year's Special Olympics event went smoothly.
