Norwich advertising during 2006 Winter Olympics

2006 Torino Olympic emblemWe are pleased to announce that WPTZ-TV (NBC) will air Norwich University television commercials during the 2006 Winter Olympics.

In total, twelve of the campaign's adult-oriented ads will run throughout the sixteen days (Feb. 10-26) of the Games.

  • Feb. 10 - Opening Ceremony 8:00 PM - 12:00 Noon
  • Feb 11-25 - Primetime 8:00 - 11:30 PM
  • Feb 26 - Closing Ceremony 8:00 PM - 12:00 Midnight

The Olympics has an audience the size of which is only exceeded by the Super Bowl -- at last estimate, it drew over 60 million network viewers in prime time alone. It is correspondingly popular with advertisers, who see the Games as a great opportunity to expose their products to a high-quality audience over a sustained period of time. According to USA Today, over $1 billion were spent on ad sales during the summer games in 2004.

Norwich University has purchased regional ads, so our audience will not be quite that large. However, the 2006 Winter Games are expected to feature one of the most accomplished U.S. teams ever fielded, and American viewership is expected to be correspondingly high. Also, NBC's strategy of holding high-profile footage (e.g., figure skating, skiing and snowboarding) for prime time is expected to sustain very high ratings.

The University is enthusiastic about this element of its ad campaign, and we hope for great results.
