Special Olympics Basketball at Norwich University

Norwich University hosted the Second Annual NU Invitational Basketball Tournament for Special Olympics Vermont on March 28.

More than 70 Special Olympians from community programs and high schools around the state convened in Plumley Armory for the day-long event, which included both team and individual skills competitions. Sixty-eight Norwich students dedicated their time to help the Games Management Team provide an Olympic atmosphere for the athletes.

Sodexho supplied the teams with bagged lunches and Dunkin Donuts in Barre donated coffee and donuts.

Students enrolled in PE432, "Organization & Administration of Sport," were completely responsible for the planning and execution of the event.

"This event highlights the elements of leadership, community service and service learning, which a Norwich education is designed to foster in our students," said Geoff Davison, professor of Physical Education and chief coordinator of the event.
