Brendan T. MacDonald Memorial Alumni Lacrosse Game
On April 18, ten former Norwich lacrosse players returned to "The Hill" to take on this year's varsity and honor the memory of Brendan T. MacDonald, a freshman lacrosse player who died in an accident last April. Brendan's father, Robert MacDonald, served as the honorary coach for the alumni team.
"It was an honor to participate in that game. I was very flattered that they asked me to be their coach," said MacDonald. "However, the alumni said if they didn't win, they were going to throw me in the Dog River," he added.
MacDonald was spared the dunking, as the alumni prevailed 5-4.
MacDonald expressed gratitude to former Head Lacrosse Coach Mark Klaiman for helping to organize the event, and to President Schneider and members of his staff for their ongoing support.
"The school has been very responsive, very supportive. That's one reason why Brendan went to that school," MacDonald said.
On April 25, in another tribute to Cadet MacDonald, three members of India Company - Antony Zito, Mark Puopolo and Stephanie Thompson - marked the anniversary of their classmate's death with a parachute jump in Pepperell, Mass.
The MacDonald's have established a scholarship at Norwich in their son's memory. Persons wishing for more information may contact stewardship officer Allison Sultan at 802.485.2308.
