Lady Cadets Basketball Academy
 The
Lady Cadets Basketball Academy at Norwich University concluded its first
day camp for girls on Friday, July 16. A total of forty-one campers -
including 28 from the Barre-Montpelier area - participated in the week-long
session, which emphasized learning the fundamentals of the game within
a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
"It's been a great week of basketball," remarked Academy Director
Steve Lanpher, head coach of the women's basketball program at Norwich.
One of the advantages of the Norwich camp is that it takes place on a
college campus, so campers get a feel for what a college program is like.
Lanpher noted that four of the five camp counselors are current members
of the Lady Cadets varsity team.
 "The
counselors have been wonderful models and teachers of the game,"
said Lanpher, who was selected co-coach of the GNAC conference this past
season. "We are very excited about hosting our first Lady Cadet Basketball
Academy on campus and look for it to grow in numbers in the following
years. Next summer, we are looking to establish two weeks of day camps
and are hoping to establish an overnight camp, as well."
