scholarship winnerWilliamstown native Gilles Owen was one of two students to receive the Northfield Savings Bank/Norwich University Golf Tournament scholarship on Tuesday night at the Country Club of Barre in Plainfield, Vt.

Owen, who will come to Norwich as a freshman in the fall, will join the Corps of Cadets and major in electrical engineering.

He was named salutatorian of his graduating class at Williamstown High School, where he played several varsity sports and was active with a number of groups.

Owen was presented with his scholarship at the tournament dinner by Norwich University Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dave Whaley, and Northfield Savings Bank president Tom Pelletier.

Morgan Davis, of Northfield, Vt., was the other scholarship winner. She was unable to attend the dinner.

Davis, a 2003 graduate of Northfield High, was active as a community volunteer and worked throughout her high school career. She will attend Norwich as a civilian student in the fall and plans to major in business management.

Over 100 players participated in the ninth-annual tournament, which raises funds for the two $1,500 scholarships that are awarded to Central Vermont students who attend Norwich University.

NSB also partners with Norwich with the Founders Award Scholarships. The Founders Award was started in 1993 in honor of Rev. Edward Bourns, PhD., who founded the Northfield Savings Bank and also served as the fifth president of Norwich University.
