Tragic death of a Norwich University student

Cadet Brendan MacDonaldNorwich University regrets to announce that at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003, Cadet Brendan MacDonald died as a result of injuries sustained when he fell from his 4th floor dorm room window.

MacDonald, a freshman at Norwich, member of the Corps of Cadets and member of the Norwich Lacrosse team, was the son of Lou-Ellen and Robert MacDonald of Norwell, Mass.

The Northfield Police Department is investigating at this time. Norwich University will provide more information as it becomes available.

Calling hours for Cadet Brendan MacDonald were held Sunday, April 27, in Norwell, MA. Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, at St. Helen’s Church in Norwell. Two busloads of students and administrators traveled to Norwell to pay their respects. Several of Brendan’s classmates served as pallbearers, and an Honor Guard was present at the morning services. They spent some time with the MacDonalds on Sunday and presented them with a Norwich flag and a collage of photos taken during their time with Brendan. Additionally, the Lacrosse team presented the MacDonalds with a team uniform and Lacrosse stick while dining with the family Sunday evening.
