Scouts participate in pre-game ceremonies
Sixty Boy Scouts from all over Central Vermont attended the Norwich-Colby
ice hockey game in Kreitzberg Arena on February 8. In pre-game ceremonies,
seven Scouts, including one representative from each troop, provided the
color guard for the singing of the National Anthem, which was performed
by Bill Beard, Scoutmaster of Barre Troop #709.
John Hatch, assistant Scoutmaster for Troop #759, praised Norwich Drill
Team Captain Corinne LeFrancois for her assistance with the color guard.
"Corinne was a big help. She came down on short notice and showed
the boys how to handle the flags," Hatch said.
Following
the National Anthem, Harry Hendrickson, Scoutmaster for Barre Troop #714,
dropped the puck in a symbolic gesture before the official start of the
game. Scott Anderson, scoutmaster for Northfield Troop #759, was interviewed
by WDEV between periods.
Hatch, who organized the pre-game event, acknowledged Norwich's loyalty
to scouts and scouting. "Norwich is a big supporter of our troop
and we really appreciate their help," he said.
