Admissions
The Admissions Office has occupied Roberts Hall since 1993. The Visitors' Center is also located in this building. Prior to 1993, the rooms in Roberts were used as meeting and function areas. Earlier, Roberts Hall had also remained a fraternity house.
The building was dedicated Roberts Hall on June 11, 1955, in memory
of Herbert Rufus Roberts. He had remained associated with Norwich
as Teacher, Dean, and Counselor from 1892 to 1932. The plaque that
commemorates the dedication remembers him as
"A man of kindly and friendly nature who found peace, contentment, and satisfaction in his profession. A mature judgement and intelligent approach to academic and personnel problems created his efficient and constructive contributions to the institution he served for 40 years."
Milano Ballroom, located in Roberts, is now used for many University and other functions. It was dedicated on May 5, 1989, made possible by a gift from Jill Kirkpatrick Milano '66, and Joseph A. Milano, Jr., '66.
CRAWFORD HALL
Residential Building
Crawford Hall, completed in 1988, houses 104 and has been used
as the civilian student upper class dormitory since all traditional
undergraduate programs and students were relocated to the Northfield
campus in 1993.
It is named after David C. Crawford, Class of 1952.
Main
Entrance
The General I.D. White Avenue is the main entrance to the Northfield
campus of Norwich University. On the gates that lie on this avenue
are the words:
"This institution was founded upon the principle that a citizen soldiery is essential to the maintenance of free government. Throughout a hundred years that principle has been cherished and men have learned that obedience to the law is liberty."
"In the centuries to come let all who enter through this gate be faithful to the past."
The Entrance Way that lines part of the avenue was donated by the Board of Fellows in September, 1988.
