As Norwich students, we walk the grounds of an institution deeply
embedded in the democratic philosophy of preserving the freedom
to express ourselves on both conservative and liberal levels. Relationships
between two different lifestyles developed and blossomed into a
glorious representation of a campus dedicated to expanding social
diversity. We are truly privileged to learn in such an environment.
Those of us who are graduating will take with us a higher knowledge
of how diplomacy is practiced on both sides of the social spectrum.
The Norwich experience, however, carries a heavy burden of responsibility.
It means educating others on the importance of a functional integrated
society as opposed to a segregated one that is oppressed by the
evils of ignorance.
As Norwich continues to accept individuals interested in educating
themselves in a diverse and challenging environment, these values
will continue to blossom. The future of Norwich has never been brighter.
Students, faculty, and staff have all worked together to set the
benchmark of what a true education should be. It is now the responsibility
of the underclassmen to ensure that this tradition continues to
prosper.
As graduation day approaches and the smell of spring fills the
air, we can all take a deep breath and know that Capt. Alden Partridge's
vision of an enlightened student body is as bright today as was
in 1819. The tradition lives on.
