OutKast "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"

OutKast is back, with a new double cd and a new sound. Throughout their career Andre 3000 and Big Boi have always experimented with new styles, and this is by far is their biggest leap. The album is really like two solo albums that have been put together in one package. The discs are totally independent of the other, but come together to make a great album. Before listening, though, you will need to forget everything you know about OutKast and their previous work.

Big Boi's disk "Speakerboxxx" doesn't stray too far from the path that he has created in his musical career. The disk is filled with great beats and lyrics that has made OutKast popular. He sticks to what he knows best. In addition to Big Boi's verses he also gets help on tracks from Jay-Z, Ludacris, Killer Mike, Lil' Jon & the Eastside Boys, Sleepy Brown, and many other rappers.

Andre's disk "The Love Below" is a total departure from what he has done in the past. Once you get past the fact that he sings more than he raps, you will see that the disk is very good. The disk also has more a 50's feel with more melodic beats and slower than usual. Andre doesn't have as many people accompanying him on his songs but most notably he has Norah Jones helping him on "Take off your cool."

These two disks come together greatly, Big Boi's disk carries it with the more familiar OutKast sound, while Andre's gives listeners a sample of the other types of music the group is capable of.

RATING: B+
Key Songs: Hey Ya,TheWay You Move, Ghettomusik, Roses,Flip Flop Rock, Tomb of the Boom

Thursday "War All The Time"

Punk fans watch out!!! Thursday is back with their third release and they are en route to the top of the charts. The band has been gaining momentum from the time they joined the Vans Warped Tour, today's modern punk-rock showcase.

Great guitar riffs and crashing drumbeats go in perfect harmony with lead singers Geoff Rickly's pain inspired lyrics and emotion filled vocals.

Thurdsay shows that even punk bands can have their soft side when they go from guitars with screaming distortion and crashing drums to "Asleep in The Chapel" a song driven totally by a piano.

Rating: B+
Key Songs: Marches and Manuvers, Signals Over the Air, Asleep in the Chapel, Between Rupture and Rapture
