As We See It (editorial)

This spring break many of us are traveling to a warmer place. Some of us are using that time for alternative spring break activities such as helping at food banks and helping build homes for the homeless. More of us should also use the time to help people who are in need.

For college students, spring break is a time to forget about school, relax, and waste an entire week of our lives.

But there are some people who are not so fortunate and need to be helped. Not everyone can fly away to Cancun, Florida, or the islands; some are destitute and in desperate need of assistance, help that could come from us as a Norwich community.

For those who are going to return to their family homes for spring break and do nothing but sit in front of the television, we challenge you to use a small part of the week to reach out to someone in need.

There are many ways that you could make someone's spring break warmer. Visit shelters, afterschool programs, and youth centers, and volunteer your time at church or charitable organizations.

Helping a child in need can be more rewarding and as enjoyable as lounging around the living room eating snacks. Fulfilling someone's dream of going to a zoo or a park or helping fill the food bag of someone in need can help us fully understand just how fortunate we really are.
