Norwich University needs a place where students can drink and have a
good time without the risk of being kicked out of school. Students too
often resort to drinking in their rooms, because they don't want to drive
somewhere to have a few drinks. The risk of being arrested for drinking
and driving far outweighs the risk of being caught drinking in your room.
So of course, students will try to make the right decision.
Why not make the situation fun without any risk? We need a place that
is walking distance to our rooms so there is no driving involved. It should
be a place where nearly all Norwich students go on the weekends. Nearly
every small school similar to Norwich has a place where large groups of
students meet to have a good time. There is nothing like that in good
old Northfield, VT.
We have a place called Frankenstein's, better known as "The Pub."
This pub is not your typical college town bar and dance joint. There is
also a new sports bar in town at the Rustic Inn. I think the owner has
the right idea about the bar, but it is way too far away from the school!
First of all, nobody should be drinking and driving. Secondly, who wants
to walk down to their car on these cold nights to scrape them off and
attempt to get them unstuck to go drink and drive? A bar across the street
cannot possibly hurt this school more than it would help it. It would
provide a healthy social life and greatly reduce the risk of Norwich students
drinking and driving or being caught drinking on campus. This makes drinking
and walking a whole new ball of wax.

I am writing this letter to address you on a problem that Norwich University
is facing right now. Norwich University has done a fine job in making
the new CLiC accounts for the students. If we are going to have this great
service, than we should find a way to make it work all the time.
Last semester, one of my classes consisted of emailing things to my
peers and my professor through my Clic account. The class was very excited
about this way of learning, when it fell short due to the work not getting
sent to the right people. For this class I received a low grade because
the professor did not receive the paper for an entire week. With all the
money that we pay for school here, we should have an email that works
100 percent of the time.
There was also a time when I wanted to show my friends the Norwich Website,
and I could not, because the site could not be found. These types of things
could all be avoided if we upgraded our system, and then everyone could
check the Website and their email at any point in time.

I would like to make a suggestion about our coat situation at this school.
Due to the recent plummeting temperatures I feel that the military college
of VERMONT should have coats warmer then summer cadet jackets. The summer
cadet jackets are very thin and are not insulated at all. The Citadel,
which is located in South Carolina, and VMI, which is located in Virginia,
both warm places, both have winter coats and hats. I know that the school
likes to look tough, but there are other ways of doing this.
Last year, a few members of the corps wore peacoats that were a start
but were a weird color blue with bright gold buttons. The color may not
have been the best, but at least they were warm. I think that the school
needs to pick a winter coat and issue them, because people are going to
start freezing solid at morning formation if something isn't done.
