In The NewsFebruary 13, 2003 Equipment room functions to help sports teams with suppliesAnthony Lanza The equipment room located in Andrews Hall here at Norwich University is where all of the equipment for the sports teams is kept and taken care of by work-study students, according to most of the sports team players. "The equipment room is very important to the sports teams here at Norwich, because we take care of everything they need," said Giovanias Graciano, 21, a communications major and equipment room worker from Fitchburg, Mass. "We wash all of their uniforms, and if they needed extra accessories, they come to the room and we order it for them." "The Lacrosse team has enough equipment to suit up about 35 people, and all that equipment [is] kept in the equipment room," said Matthew Chittick, 21, a criminal justice major and lacrosse player. "That's where we get all our equipment, and if you need anything, the equipment room will have something to lend you," Chittick said. After every practice or game, we wash the uniforms and put them away
neatly in the equipment room, said Lathan Sutton, 22, a computer information
systems major and equipment room worker from New Hampton, Va. Some funding for the equipment comes from the school to replace old equipment, but each team has a budget that they are able to spend on new equipment, Graciano said. "Once the money is raised by either the school or team fund raising, they give us the money and tell us what kind of equipment they want us to order," Griaciano said. "I think that the sports equipment that we do have here is pretty
good and fairly new," said Rob Hammer, 23, a criminal justice major
and equipment room worker from New York. There is a staff of close to 10 people working here in the equipment room, Graciano said. "Some of the coaches do get hectic and put a lot of pressure on us to get things done, like getting the teams' bags packed at certain times. We are the equipment room, and we need to do everything we need to do for the team, so if anything goes wrong, we [take] the blame for it." "We clean everything that needs to be cleaned in order for the teams to look good." Graciano said. "We try to do the best job possible, so that our uniforms stand out from out teams, and we don't get blamed by coaches or players for anything that went wrong with their uniforms. "We make them look good, basically, and keep them looking good." |
