Alumni Assoc, office provide guidance for graduating seniors

By Carrie Mitchell
Norwich Guidon Staff Writer

With just 12 short weeks until graduation many seniors may be finding themselves asking the age-old question: where do I go from here?

The Norwich Alumni Association may have an answer or at least be able to help seniors answer that question a little more easily.

Located in the Hasset House on campus, the Alumni Office is a great resource for students and is actively involved with preparing seniors for the next step in their lives.

Throughout the year the Alumni Office, along with other Norwich groups such as the Career Development Office, host a number of workshops, seminars and receptions to aide graduating seniors and underclassmen.

These workshops help seniors create resumes and cover letters and they can help with aspects of their futures lives like careers, job placement or even insight on living areas or just someone to talk to.

Many of these seminars and receptions give graduating seniors opportunities to rub elbows with Norwich alumni and use those alumni as mentors and contacts after graduation.

"It amazed me as a student how willing many of Norwich's alumni are to connect with students and act as mentors," said Amanda Tracy, Norwich class of 2002.

Tracy currently works for Comcast Cable Vision of Delmarva, Md. and is also serving as class agent of 2002.

"Basically when [seniors] leave they kind of have an idea how to use the [alumni] association to their benefit," said Bill Passalacqua, Alumni relations officer and Norwich class of 1988. Passalacqua said that the Alumni Association "is a great resource."

"Definitely, being part of the Alumni Association is helpful in so many ways. It allows you a chance to keep in touch with friends and make great connections," said Jennifer Carr, Norwich class of 2000, who is a class agent, active with her reunion committee and currently works for Clear Channel Radio in San Jose, Calif. as a sales coordinator.

The Alumni Office also hosts the Senior Dinner each April where the Alumni Association is actively involved.

At this event ways to stay involved with Norwich is explained more in depth.

The Alumni Office hosts the Senior Reception held on Commencement Weekend.

"We want [seniors] to be friends with Norwich when they leave here," said Passalacqua.
