NU
weight room gets overhaul over summer

Norwich
invested heavily into upgrading the weight room this past summer to the
delight of students, staff and faculty.
"We have invested in just a little bit under $200,000," said
Michael McKean, the commandant of cadets and vice
president of student affairs at Norwich. "It was given to us by the
development office; we had a couple of nice donations from some good people."
The weight room hours are horrible, though, according to Chris Hagemeyer,
21, a senior criminal justice major from Maine. Although he is not happy
with the hours of the new facility, he thinks the new equipment in the
weight room "is awesome."
Valarie
Solis, 19, a sophomore international studies major from San Antonio, Tex.,
goes to the weight room, "five times a week."
"The equipment is a lot better than last year," Solis said.
People
have complaints about weight room times, no fitness trainers, and how
crowded the weight room gets.
"I
have made the times so they are student-friendly," said McKean. "I
mean, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day, and then on the weekends it's
12:00 to 5:00 p.m."
"I think the equipment is a huge improvement over what it was last
year; it definitely took a step towards what a private college should
have as far as fitness equipment," said Jonathan Marshall, 19, a
history major from Taunton, Mass.
According
to Tom Kennedy, 21, a communications major from Weymouth, Mass., the weight
room is an excellent improvement from last year.
"I
love the weight room," Kennedy said. "As part of the football
team, I definitely use it all the time and believe it will attract more
people to work out."
