![]() As one of the most uniquely American holidays approaches, students and faculty members at Norwich have realized that things could be worse. Freedom is something that most Americans take for granted, but for some NU students who have been taken away from the university to fight the war against terrorism, freedom is a value worth fighting for. So this Thanksgiving, the staff of The Norwich Guidon would like to suggest that Americans be thankful to the men and women of the armed forces. Thankful for the ability to not wake up every morning in a war zone. Thankful for the protection of our family and friends whose freedom they protect every day. Some students that attended Norwich have left us this year to venture out to different countries to defend the U.S. We believe that those Americans celebrating their Thanksgivings at home, should be thankful to these men and women. Thankful that they don't have to fight this war. Thankful for these brave individuals who are willing to put their lives on the line to make sure that we all have freedom. The freedom to sit down with our families and friends and enjoy this glorious holiday. So, as we sit at our dinner tables, eating and drinking, we should give thanks for the Armed Forces of the United States. Thanks for the Navy, the Army, the Air Force, and the Marines. Thanks for them and for the protection they give us every hour of every day, both at home and abroad. To the students who left Norwich last year in the wake of the September
11 attacks and have yet to return, the staff of The Norwich Guidon
gives thanks and would also like to call upon all of those who enjoy the
freedom they provide to lift your voices and your glasses around your
holiday tables this Thanksgiving. Do not forget those whose lives safeguard
the freedoms you enjoy. Remember them on Thanksgiving, and be thankful
for them every day of the year. |
