I hope you all had a good mid-winter break (some schools call it spring!!). First let me say how proud I was of the Men's Hockey Team and the wonderful season they have had this year. Going to the national championship was a thrill, but to lose in overtime was a heartbreaker. However, they have provided wonderful excitement and are great students and representatives of Norwich. Likewise, the Women's Basketball Team and members of the Rifle Team also went to post-conference competition after an outstanding season. My hearty congratulations to all our athletes and coaches for a great winter season. There are many, many positive things that students do every day in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, and on the athletic field that make me very proud of this University. There are only a few short days between now and Commencement. This spring will pass faster than you can believe, and Reading Day will be upon us. For those preparing for Junior Weekend, I ask that you have a fabulous time, but please be careful and safe. Watch out for each other and make sure that no one misuses or abuses alcohol so we can all have a safe celebration in this milestone of your journey through Norwich. I do have a special request that, for those students who have received scholarships, please provide your thank you letters for our donors. You have until March 30, 2002, to visit with Sarah Friend in Jackman Hall room 425. She can be reached at x2308. These thank you letters are very important to our donors so they know that their funds, which have kept you in school, are appreciated by you. Many of you would not be able to attend Norwich without the faithful giving of our alumni and our friends. The least you can do in return for receiving the scholarship is to write a thank you note in reply. For those of you that have written the thank you letters, I applaud you for doing that and thank those of you who actually visited the development office. You understand the importance of the gift and know how to say thank you for it. There are two new scholarship recognition events, one in the late fall and one in the spring. It is on such occasions that the donors have the opportunity to meet the scholarship recipients. Some of you may be contacted by Ms. Friend to attend the scholarship luncheon scheduled for Saturday, April 13. New scholarship luncheons are wonderful events, both for our students and our donors, who help make the students' Norwich education possible. I really hope that those who are invited will make a special effort to attend. |
