With a record of 11-4:NU women's basketball team stomp Simmons 110-38By: Matthew E. Harlow "I love the girls on the team, and I want us to succeed in what we are working for, and that is to win our games and our conference this year," said sophomore Lisa Belmonte, 19, a physical education major from Levittown, N.Y. Belmonte said this early on in the season, and the ladies are holding to what they said they are working for by beating St. Joseph's of (Maine), New England College, Lyndon, and New England College and beating Roger Williams in a consolation game. "The win over St. Joseph's was a big pick up for the team since they where undefeated, and it always feels good when we can prove to ourselves as a team that we can play the best out there and win," said senior Kelly Kane, 21, a communications major from Cicero, N.Y. Belmonte and freshman Shevon Gibbons scored 18 points apiece to lead Norwich University to the win. Gibbons had seven of nine shots for 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to beat St. Joseph's. "We're all really happy on how we succeeded in this game, and all of us played really well," said sophomore Jamie Abrams, 20, a physical education major from Wantagh, N.Y., who added 15 points to the board for the Cadets. Lets not forget about Kane, who stepped up in the win over New England College by grabbing ten rebounds and blocking two shots, coming within one block of Norwich's career record. "I'm not worried about beating a record or playing for myself; like I said earlier this year, our goals are still the same, and that is a team goal that we are working for," said Kane. They are now halfway through their season, and continue to work hard to finish the season with a strong record. In a blowout victory (110-38) against Simmons College, the Cadets look
to continue their winning ways against Emmanuel on Jan. 26. |
