As we enter the holiday season, the staff of The Norwich Guidon wishes all of our readers a joyous holiday full of happiness, good health, and prosperity through the New Year. We also want to challenge our readers to think about those less fortunate this time of year. More than 500,000 people in the United States are homeless for the holidays. Children are the fastest growing segment of that homeless population. Nine million people in the world suffer from hunger. Forty percent of homeless men have served in the armed forces. We encourage the Norwich community to become part of the community and help in any way possible over the winter break. There are many ways to help. Go to a local food bank and donate food or help serve food at a homeless shelter. Donate used, appropriate clothing: jackets, gloves and hats, to a shelter. Visit with veterans at a Veteran's hospital. Adopt an angel or give toys to Toys for Tots. More and more we are seeing people give back to the community; if NFL football players and Marine Corps personnel can find time to serve in their communities, college students can too. Happy Holidays from The Norwich Guidon. |
