The President's Corner

Norwich is all about leadership. I want to congratulate all of our leaders who have been recognized over the last several days at various awards ceremonies. A special congratulations to Anne Lambert, who has been named Leader of the Year. Listed below is a condensed version of activities of those students who were nominated for this great honor. Norwich has a great student body, and I consider it a privilege to serve as your President. I enjoy so much seeing you grow and develop as the future leaders of our world.

Sarah Flint - Sarah is a Junior from Braintree, Vermont. She is a very busy person. In addition to maintaining scholastic excellence in her Political Science studies with a minor in German, she also is the Coordinator of the Youth Mentoring Program and L.E.A.D. Sarah serves on the Honor Council, was the Assistant Director and Stage Manager for the Pegasus Players this year, and is a member of the Civilian Jr. Ring Committee. In addition to serving as the coordinator of the Youth Mentoring Program, she is a mentor, herself, to three students through the Northfield Study Partners Program. Sarah was the Outstanding Leader of the Year last year.

Anne Lambert - Anne is also a Junior, hailing from Jaffrey, NH, and majoring in English with a minor in Elementary Education. Anne serves as the Assistant Resident Director of Crawford Hall. She also serves as a student representative on the President's Advisory Council, is a member of the Student Support Committee, and is involved with the Youth Mentoring Program. Anne is a tutor in the Learning Support Center and is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, National English Honor Society, and Alpha Chi Honor Society. She has been on the President's List every semester since she entered Norwich.

Sean Maher - Sean is a Senior from Rindge, NH, and is majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Computer Information Systems. This year he has served as the Student Director of the Intramural Program, is a member of the Junior Weekend Committee and a member of the Youth Mentoring Program. He serves as a tutor at the Learning Support Center and a member of the Criminal Justice Student Association. He is recognized as a Presidential Fellow, is a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society and Alpha Phi Sigma, National Criminal Justice Honor Society. He ranks 5th in this year's Senior Class.

Jacob Maslyn - Jacob is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and is at Norwich as a MECEP. Jacob is a senior majoring in Environmental Science. While at Norwich he has been involved in the Norwich Alcohol Awareness Program, served as an instructor in the Adventure Training Program, volunteered at the Special Olympics, Toys for Tots, and is a certified lifeguard through the American Red Cross. He belongs to the Geology Club and Semper Fi. Jacob is a member of Alpha Chi, National College Honor Society. Upon graduation he will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Ming-Rung Shiung - Ming-Rung is a Sophomore, a member of the Corps of Cadets, and is one of our International Students. His home is in Taiwan. He is majoring in Business. This year he has served as Corporal Cadre for Charlie Company. As a freshman, Ming worked almost daily in the Learning Support Center with Mat Parker to improve his English while working to meet the demands of Corps training. In addition to his duties in the Corps of Cadets, Ming serves as the senior cadet for all the cadets from the Chinese Military Academy which carries the responsibility of seeing that each student makes a good transition and adjustment to the rigors of Norwich. He is a member of the International Student Organization. Ming-Rung looks with pride on his freshmen who recently won the Drill Competition.

Celina Silva - Celina is a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, majoring in English and Criminal Justice and is a member of the Corps of Cadets. Her goal is to acquire a position in the Victims Rights/Advocate Field and in preparation for this was a co-founder of the Norwich University Student Support Committee. She is President of Sigma Tau Delta, National English Honor Society, holds the rank of LTC in the Corps as the Regimental Executive Officer, and serves on the Corps Honor Committee. Celina is also a member of the Norwich University Cavalry Unit.

Paul Smith - Paul is a Junior from Auburn, NH, majoring in Political Science. He is the Assistant Resident Director of Patterson Hall and in that capacity shares the responsibility for the supervision of all Patterson Hall Resident Advisors. This year he helped to create the Strongest Link, a weekly student resident information pamphlet. Paul has served as the Basketball Commissioner for the Norwich University Intramural Council, is chairman of the Civilian Junior Ring Committee, and is the Civilian Student Body Liaison to NUAC. He has been very active in the Political Science Club, having served as Vice President in 2000-01.
