A photo essay of the sights and experiences
of students on a service-learning trip.
Norwich University’s relationship with the people in the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua grows deeper.
Ten students and three staff members traveled to Central America in May 2009 with NU Visions Abroad for a service-learning experience, building on a trip the previous year.
Working closely with Planting Hope, a Montpelier, Vt., nonprofit organization, military and traditional students dug into challenges that included teaching English, organizing a card system for a growing library, installing a water holding tank, painting a building interior and hauling heavy bags of corn and flour to remote, rural schools. Students stayed in the homes of townspeople and worked with local residents on a variety of projects.
A third trip to Matagalpa is planned.
