Educational Paths for Cadets and Traditional Students

Many people assume that if you go to a military college, you must enter the military after graduation. Not so. While the option of a commission is available to all of our Cadets, they are under no obligation to contract with the military if they do not accept an ROTC scholarship.

The chart below illustrates the education paths that are available for all of our students. Students in The Corps of Cadets pursue a lifestyle that combines rigorous academics with military training. Approximately 200 of our 1,100 Cadets are on an ROTC Scholarship.

  • ROTC Scholarship Students: Students who have accepted ROTC scholarships - whether they received the award out of high school or here at Norwich - are obligated to commission in their chosen branch of service following graduation.
  • Non-ROTC Scholarship Students: Cadets who have not pursued a scholarship have until their junior year to decide if a military career is right for them. Those who do not seek a military career graduate into the civilian world such as our students pursuing a traditional lifestyle.
