Coaching minor
This minor is designed to meet proposed national standards preparation in coaching for elementary through high school level. The primary goals are to teach coaching fundamentals, injury prevention, health awareness, motor skill development, adolescent behavior, and youth leadership skills.(PE Major equivalent: Concentration in Coaching) The following courses are required:
- PE161 Physical Fitness & Wellness Assessment,
- PE305 Motor Development Activities II,
- PE355 Coaching: Leadership in Sports,
- PE432 Organization and Administration in PE,
Plus two courses from the following list:
- PE304 Motor Development Activities I,
- PE341 Instructional Strategies for PE in Elementary School,
- PE342 Instructional Strategies for PE in Middle-Secondary Schools,
- PE365 Kinesiology,
- PE371 Physiology of Exercise,
- SM210 Assessment of Injury and Illness,
- SM308 Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries or
PY324 Adolescent Psychology.
Health minor
This concentration is designed to add depth and breadth to a student’s education in health and wellness, develop healthy lifelong patterns, and increase the marketability of graduates. All courses must be passed with a ‘C’ or better. (PE Major equivalent: Concentration in Health) The following courses are required:
- PE161 Physical Fitness & Wellness Assessment,
- PE260 Personal and Community Health,
- BI2XX Biology course,
- PE432 Organization and Administration in PE,
Plus three courses from the following list:
- BI220 Introductory Microbiology,
- BI240 Environmental and Food Microbiology,
