Engineers Week

Each year the DCSE celebrates Engineer’s Week; a week filled with contests, challenges, sporting events and fun for our current engineering students. As members of our extended family you are invited to join us on campus for Thursday, Feb. 19 and Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 to take part in our Engineer’s Week celebration. You are welcome to come for both days and stay overnight on campus as a guest of our student hosts or come for just a day visit.

The 2009 academy—scheduled for Sunday, July 12 through Saturday, July 18—is no longer accepting applicants.

2009 academy schedule

The Summer Engineering Academy has been designed by the David Crawford School of Engineering to:

  • Introduce the students to the three engineering majors offered at Norwich (civil, electrical-computer, and mechanical) through classes and laboratory exercises.
  • Expose the students to aspects of the engineering profession and teach them about possible career paths in engineering to help them decide which field is the best fit for them.
  • Teach students about the importance of teamwork in the engineering field and provide opportunities for students to work in teams on engineering projects and an engineering design contest.
  • Allow students to enjoy summertime in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont through a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, rappelling, archery, tubing, and watching the NECBL’s champion team, The Vermont Mountaineers.
  • Provide ample opportunity for students to experience life at Norwich University interacting with our engineering students who serve as the camp counselors, as well as our professors, who provide the classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Award select scholarships for regular full-time enrollment in Norwich University’s engineering program based on overall performance during the academy in areas of academics, teamwork and passion for engineering.
  • Enrollment at the Summer Engineering Academy is a competitive process requiring submission of an official high school transcript, standardized test scores (PSAT, SAT, Plan or ACT), essays, and letters of recommendation. Applications for the academy will be available online in the February preceding the academy.
