Student Research
Program Overview
Student Research opportunities that are funded internally by Norwich University include support for students to present papers at professional meetings, support for expenses associated with original research, scholarship or creative work projects, and summer research fellowships.
The Student Research Committee is pleased to announce the continuation of our Summer Research Fellowship Program financially supported by the Chase Endowment for Academic Excellence and the Weintz Research Scholars Program.
The Summer Student Research Fellowship Program will fund faculty-mentored student research projects in both the traditional 10-week format and in a new 6-week format. The Summer Fellowships are applied for through the completion of a carefully thought out proposal prepared by the student, with guidance from his or her faculty mentor. Each recipient of a 10-week fellowship receives a stipend of $4,000. Those awarded a 6-week fellowship will receive a $2,400 stipend. Faculty mentors for research projects of both lengths receive a $1,000 stipend.
The fellowships, awarded on a competitive basis, support research, creative, or scholarly projects, but not work leading directly to completion of the student's degree. Application deadline is March 1, 2012. Proposals are to be submitted to the Director of Student Research, Office of Academic Research. Expenses for projects involving international travel can potentially be supported with Politi Student Research Travel Grants. Additional information regarding Politi Funds is available on the my.norwich portal.
Posters presenting the results of summer research projects are displayed each fall at the Faculty Scholarship Celebration and each spring at the Student Scholarship Celebration.
